Opportunities come with responsibilities. Student use of Google Workspace for Education follows the expectations and disciplinary action outlined in the District’s Acceptable Use Policy and other District Policies. Even if Google Workspace for Education apps are available outside of school, using the district account is subject to the same policies and procedures as using the district's network.

The School District of Beloit maintains the right to monitor and examine how student accounts are being used, and student accounts must always be applied for educational purposes.

The supervision of Internet use outside of school is under the purview of parents and guardians. Parents and guardians should be aware of the District's Acceptable Use Policy and will help their students follow it. It is advised that parents and guardians talk about expectations and family rules regarding the use of all Internet-based resources.

The school district will manage Google Workspace for Education student accounts according to the needs for classroom use and parent or guardian consent (Additional Services). To ensure that students' usage of digital technologies complies with the School District of Beloit Acceptable Usage and other District Policies, teacher supervision and online content filters are implemented in schools. In addition to monitoring the Google Workspace for Education domain on a regular basis and making the necessary updates, the district will take steps to ensure the safety and privacy of its students.

School District of Beloit students primarily use Gmail to send and receive emails from their teachers and classmates through their school-issued Google accounts, often accessed via the Google Classroom platform, allowing them to submit assignments, ask questions, and receive important updates related to their coursework, acting as a communication tool within the educational setting.

Google Calendar is an online scheduling tool that helps students manage their time and events. 

All School District of Beloit (SDB) students (K-12) have access to Google Calendar through their SDB-issued Google account.

Google Classroom is a web-based learning environment. When logged into Google Classroom, students can collaborate with their peers and teachers.

Google Classroom offers a digital safe space for students to view class announcements, access posted course content, view posted assignments, and turn in completed work.

Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Google Classroom. School District of Beloit (SDB) students will use Google Classroom in grades 4-12.

Google Docs is an online word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation editor that enables students to create, store, and share instantly and securely, and collaborate online in real-time. Students can create new documents from scratch or upload existing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. There's no software to download, and all of their work is stored safely online (Google Drive) and can be accessed from any computer. All School District of Beloit (SDB) students have access to Google Docs through their SDB-issued Google account.

Google Drive is a cloud-based storage solution that allows students to save files online and access them anywhere from any Chromebook, smartphone, tablet, or computer. Students can use Google Drive to securely upload files and edit them online. Google Drive also makes it easy to edit and share files. All School District of Beloit (SDB) students have access to Google Drive through their SDB-issued Google account.

Google Forms is a web-based app used to create forms for data collection purposes. Students and teachers can use Google Forms to make/take surveys, quizzes, or event registration sheets. All School District of Beloit (SDB) students have access to Google Forms through their SDB-issued Google account.

School District of Beloit (SDB) teachers use Google Meet as an engagement/enrichment/video conferencing resource for grades 4K-12. There's no software to download, and Google Meet can be accessed from any computer, Chromebook, smartphone, or tablet (data or internet required).

All School District of Beloit (SDB) students have access to Google Meet through their SDB-issued Google account.

With Google Sheets, students and staff can create and edit spreadsheets directly in their web browser—no special software is required. Multiple people can work simultaneously, students and staff can see people’s changes as they make them, and every change is saved automatically.

Google Slides is an online presentation tool that lets students and staff create and format presentations and work with other people.

Chrome Canvas is an authorized Supplementary Digital Drawing App for Chromebooks that allows users to create images and designs. Users can create illustrations, annotate images, and create layers and transparent images. Chrome Canvas offers four drawing tools: pencil, pen, marker, and chalk.

Google Bookmarks are a useful feature of web browsers that allow users to save a website's URL for quick access later. They can be especially helpful for pages with long URLs or for accessing specific parts of a site. Users can sync their bookmarks to the cloud and other devices by signing into their Google account in Chrome. This allows users to access their bookmarks on any device without having to manually back them up.

Google Books is an authorized Supplementary Digital Tool that allows users to search key words and phrases as they would using the Google search engine, and Google Books will display printed resources with corresponding matches. For books in the public domain, users can download a pdf of the book for free; otherwise, the books’ contents are limited to a few pages that contain the search criteria. Useful information such as ISBN number or where to purchase the book is also available.

Google Earth is an authorized Supplementary Digital Tool that renders a 3D representation of Earth based primarily on satellite imagery. The program maps the Earth by superimposing satellite images, aerial photography, and GIS data onto a 3D globe, allowing users to see cities and landscapes from various angles. Teachers may use it in instruction with Digital Tours of various locations around the world.

Google Maps is an authorized Supplementary Digital Tool that provides users detailed information about geographical regions and sites worldwide. In addition to conventional road maps, Google Maps offers aerial and satellite views of many locations. In some cities, Google Maps offers street views comprising photographs taken from vehicles.

Google News is an advanced news platform that uses artificial intelligence algorithms to scan, index, and present news sites from various news sources around the world. As a result, users receive a tailored compilation of news from different categories such as politics, economy, technology, entertainment, and more. The platform also takes into account the user’s location, presenting regional and local news that may be particularly relevant to them.

Google Photos is a service that allows students to store, view, edit, and share photos and videos.

Google Translate is an authorized Supplementary Digital Tool that offers free service to instantly translate words, phrases, and web pages between English and more than 100 other languages. Students will be informed when this service is allowable for use.

YouTube is a free video-sharing website that makes it easy to watch online videos. 

Please note that if consent is not provided, students will still be able to watch YouTube videos embedded in teacher resources on Canvas. Parent/guardian consent is for students’ direct access to the YouTube website.
